Read about this beautiful beach on Italy's east coast!
The Town
Castiglioncello is just a short train ride from Florence and was the perfect day trip getaway on a hot September day in Italy. And it has been HOT. This charming beach town on the Ligurian Sea is quaint and the beaches are so relaxing. Within this small beach town there were a few restaurants, boutique clothing stores and of course gelato!
On the hillside above the town is the Castello Pasquini. The castle itself was small, but had a great view overlooking the sea and gardens to meander through. We only really felt like we could be here for the afternoon because there wasn't a ton to do, but it was definitely worth the trip!
Getting There
We took our first Saturday in Italy to make the trip here. This was our first experience navigating the train system in Europe, but we were very successful despite a slight language barrier and switching trains in Pisa. The total travel time from Florence was about 1.75 hours.
The Beach Club
The beach club we went to was just down the stairs off the cliffside. This club was not free, however, there are free beaches in Castiglioncello as well. We arrived on the beach at 13:00 and immediately purchased a set of chairs which also included the cutest personal changing cabana where we could lock everything up (pictured below). The beaches in Italy are known to be on the rockier side, however, the sand here was so soft and the water was a great temperature. I was also pleasantly surprised at how nice the bathrooms were. Much better than the US beach bathroom situation.
*If you are interested in this beach club I could not figure out its name, however, it is on the Baia di Querceatano.
