Castiglioncello is just a short train ride from Florence and was the perfect day trip getaway on a hot September day in Italy. And it has been HOT. This charming beach town on the Ligurian Sea is quaint and the beaches are so relaxing.
There were a few restaurants, boutique clothing stores and of course gelato! The beach club we went to was just down the stairs off the cliffside. this club was not free, however, there are free beaches in Castiglioncello.

Getting There
We took our first Saturday in Italy to travel to the town of Castiglioncello. This was our first experience navigating the train system in Europe, but we were very successful despite a slight language barrier and switching trains in Pisa. The total time it took to make the trip from Florence was about 1.75 hours.
The Beach Club
We arrived on the beach at 13:00 and immediately purchased a set of chairs which also included the cutest personal changing cabana where we could lock everything up. The beaches in Italy are known to be on the rockier side, however, the sand here was so soft and the water was a great temperature. I was also pleasantly surprised at how nice the bathrooms were. Much better than the US beach bathroom situation.
